OMVIC

Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council. The regulator that licenses and oversees car dealers in Ontario.

Ministry of Transportation (ServiceOntario)

Provincial agency that handles vehicle registration, licence plates, and driver licensing.

Carfax

Vehicle history report showing past accidents, registration history, and other key data.

VIN

Vehicle Identification Number. A unique 17-character code that identifies a specific vehicle.

Safety Standards Certificate (SSC)

Proof that a vehicle met minimum safety standards on the date of inspection—often needed to register a vehicle.

Differential

Component that lets wheels on the same axle rotate at different speeds, improving cornering and traction.

Transmission

System that transfers engine power to the wheels using gears; can be automatic or manual.

Powertrain

Engine, transmission, and differentials that create and deliver power to the wheels.

Drivetrain

Parts that transfer power from the transmission to the wheels, including driveshafts, axles, and differentials.

AWD / FWD / RWD

All-Wheel, Front-Wheel, or Rear-Wheel Drive—indicates which wheels receive power from the engine.

ABS

Anti-lock Braking System prevents wheels from locking under hard braking for better control.

TPMS

Tire Pressure Monitoring System alerts you when tire pressure is low.

MSRP

Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. A reference price set by the automaker.

Fuel Economy (L/100 km)

Litres of fuel used to drive 100 km. Lower numbers mean better efficiency.

Warranty

Coverage for repair or replacement of certain vehicle components for a set time or mileage.
